Private Record

A Life Worth Preserving

Most people don't spend much time thinking about their own story. They're busy living it. Years pass, places change and people come and go. Before long, what once felt unforgettable starts to blur around the edges.

The irony is that the people who have experienced the most often leave the least behind. They keep meaning to get around to it one day, but most never do.

A Private Record is a way of capturing a life while the details, memories and lessons are still yours to tell. A clear, honest and professionally written account of a life, created for the people who matter most, capturing the judgement, character and perspective that shaped it. Those are often the things future generations value most, and the things most at risk of being lost.

Who Is It For

Every project is different, but most clients fall into one of three groups.

Some want to preserve a lifetime of experience for children and grandchildren. Others have built careers that shaped organisations, communities or professions and want an accurate record of how things actually unfolded.

Some simply know that the stories, values and decisions that helped define them will disappear unless somebody takes the time to capture them properly.

Some projects focus heavily on family. Others on business. Most become a blend of both, because life rarely fits neat categories.

The common thread is rarely vanity. More often it’s the desire to leave something meaningful behind, a lasting inheritance that can be worth considerably more than physical assets.

A Confidential and Personal Process

Every project begins with a confidential conversation. We'll discuss what you'd like to achieve, who the intended audience is and what form the final work should take.

From there, I conduct a series of recorded interviews designed to uncover not only the events themselves but the patterns, motivations and turning points behind them.

Many clients are surprised by what emerges. Stories they haven't thought about for years suddenly reconnect with other parts of their lives. Decisions that once seemed isolated start to reveal a larger pattern.

My role is to listen carefully, ask the right questions and shape those conversations into a narrative that feels authentic to you. The goal is to create something recognisably human - in your voice.

The choice of format is entirely yours. Some are printed as a small number of beautifully produced books. Others remain digital documents shared only with close relatives and friends.

The level of privacy is entirely your decision. Confidentiality and discretion are guaranteed throughout.

Getting Started

If you're considering a Private Record, the best place to start is simply with a conversation. Most people have more questions than answers at the beginning. That’s exactly where I’d expect you to be.
